Career Transition Update: One Down, Six To Go.

One term down, six to go.

For this post I’ll give an update on school, my career transition, and how I’m spending time when I’m not studying.

Spring Term is Over

My first term back in school (since 2005!) was a success and, although I’ve only got one term under my belt, the road through my career transition has been smooth so far.

I ended the term on a high note, scoring 91% on my Financial Accounting final (class avg. was 65%) and a perfect 100% on my Personal Finance final. Spring term grades will be posted this week.

Summer term starts one week from today and I’m taking two classes, BA213 Decision Making With Accounting Info (a managerial accounting class, the follow up to the financial accounting class I took this term) and Communications 220 Public Speaking. These are both prerequisites for the upper-division business classes I’ll start in the fall.

Break Time

Now that Spring term is over, I have this week off before my summer classes begin. What am I going to do with all this free time? I almost wish I had some homework to do…almost.

Here are the goals and projects I’m working on during the break…

Home Garden

I’m taking the opportunity in between terms to install a new garden. I’ve removed the topsoil and next will lay landscape fabric and wood chips before adding some select perennials.

Give Mom a Hand

I’m heading to my hometown of The Dalles to help mom with her lawn and a few other home projects she’s working on.

Record an EP

I booked a 10-hour day on June 22nd at Jackpot Studios in Portland, Oregon to record a professional acoustic EP of my original songs, stay tuned…

Read a Book

I have a goal to finish one book before summer classes start next week. I’ve got about 150 pages left to read of Paul Smith’s Lead With A Story. This book about “crafting business narratives that captivate, convince, and inspire” is appropriate since I start my public speaking class next week.

Stay Active

I joined the PSU tennis club in the spring and had a blast, but it closed for the summer. So I joined a volleyball community league that starts tonight!

Blog

I set a goal to write 1-2 blog posts during the break to be published later, which will save me a little time once summer term starts. By the way, if this is your first time reading my blog, thank you for reading! If you’re curious, here are the other posts I’ve published so far:
